Nightly use of
a brush-on fluoride gel is an extremely important step in your new
brushing routine. Topical fluoride gel will destroy plaque and help protect the
tooth surface from decalcification. When plaque interacts with sugary foods or
soda pop, an acid is produced that can breakdown the tooth enamel and cause it
to decalcify. The areas of decalcified enamel will appear as “white spots” or
“white stripes” after your braces are removed. Decalcified teeth can progress
to decayed teeth if they are neglected. It is critical that you brush on your fluoride gel for at least one minute every night. Brush on your fluoride gel as the last step in your nightly routine, and DO NOT RINSE afterwards. Be sure to give your teeth that extra minute of care for a life-time of beautiful smiles! BE SURE TO SEE YOUR GENERAL DENTIST EVERY THREE TO SIX MONTHS FOR YOUR GENERAL DENTAL NEEDS AND CLEANING! |

MI Paste MI Paste is a new product that incorporates break-through technology to help remineralize tooth enamel. It is a creamy paste that contains a special enzyme (Recaldent) that transfers calcium into the enamel structure to rebuild damaged enamel. This will help to eliminate the "white spots" of decalcified enamel that remain on the teeth when the brackets are removed on patients that did not brush and floss adequately during treatment. MI Paste will also help prevent decalcification during the time that the brackets are on the teeth. The proper way to use MI Paste is as follows: 1. Brush and Floss thoroughly to remove all plaque from all areas. 2. Rinse with warm salt water for 2-3 minutes. 3. Brush on Fluoride gel for 1 minute - DO NOT RINSE! 4. Apply MI Paste to a cotton swab and gently massage along the gumline and between the brackets. Be sure to use the MI Paste sparingly as you need just a small pea sized amount per use. The MI Paste is very creamy and will tend to smear more than toothpaste. Gently apply MI Paste for at least 3 minutes. You may remove excess by simply wiping away any remaining cream from the teeth, but DO NOT RINSE! If your brackets have been removed you will still follow the above routine in order to achieve the maximum result. The extra time that you spend using your MI Paste will be rewarded with healthy enamel and a beautiful smile for the rest of your life. Note: MI Paste is also excellent to relieve the sensitivity that sometimes occurs when teeth are being whitened. |
